We booked 2 motel rooms at 1700 for the same evening and 2 hours later we were on our way to drive 380 miles in a 7 hours.
In the morning we visited the USS Midway aircraft carrier that was in service from 1945 until 1992 and now it's tranformed into a big museum.
I have to tell you, it's huge, it's just a city on it's own.
some facts:
- 330 meter lang
- 72 meter breed
- gewicht: 74.000 ton
- The powerpland made energy for 1 million people
- The engines gave 212.000 HP to go forward at max 33kts
- crew: 4500
- monthly payroll: 1.2 million dollars
- daily meals: 13.000
- every day: 3000 pounds potatoes; 4500 pound meat, 1000 loaves of bread
- 3000 miles of copper conductor
The nice see-breeze, cold water, nice waves of 1m high, typical lifeguards like baywatch...
The evening brought us to Historic San Diego; fifth avenue where you have shops, restaurants and clubs. Everywhere there is a nice atmosphere, friendly people and nice things to have fun.
We saw a lowrider along the road giving a little show, I thought it only existed in Vice City San Andreas but apparently it's a car for real and it is very cool!
The only problem we had: below 21 you can not enter any club, there is security everywhere to check your ID (just like in Arizona) and even to enter a restaurant below 21 it's hard to get in because mostly they serve alcohol in there as well. We managed to find a nice Italian restaurant and finished the evening in style with a view of the San Diego skyline by night...Beautiful!!
We visited next day SD old town, tried some typical Mexican food and time was already up to go home again.
Time flew again way too fast and I hope I'll go back there one day, I still have to see a lot of the city and discover all it's secrets.
hey Matthias
