Hooverdam

On our way to Las Vegas this weekend we had to pass the Hoover dam.
When the dam was build in 1936 is was used to be the biggest in the world and now it's a very important source of energy.
Some interesting stuff:
  • Annual production: +- 4000 Gigawatt!!
  • Depth at it's base: 200 meters
  • Height: 220 meter (= second heighest dam in the world)
  • Length: +- 380 meter
  • Traffic: about 13000-16000 cars per day
  • Surface area: 640 km²
  • visitors: 8-10 million/year
  • deaths: about 100 people lost their live during the construction period from 1930 to 1936

The hooverdam in the middle and the 4 pylons
generate the hydro-energy for the dam

For better traffic passage they are building a huge bridge
over the dam to accomodate for increasing traffic.

Brain and Rodrigez being so kind to wait for me
while I took some pics

Pictures of Las Vegas will follow soon

Cheers,
Matthias
